Today students are learning about extinction and the role it plays in the Theory of Natural Selection. Part of the theory states that there are more organisms in an environment than can survive and only those with the most well-suited traits survive, while other organisms die and become extinct. In this way, unhelpful traits disappear from the Tree of Life while helpful traits remain and evolve.
