Monday and Tuesday: Introduction to Watersheds

For the next two weeks, we will be learning about and investigating watersheds.  A watershed is an area of land where all of the water that is under it or on it flows to the same spot.

Today students are taking a close look at a text to identify important details about the water cycle. Students will be using a news source called Newsela which creates readings of the same materials at multiple different reading levels.  Students should read a level of the text that is easy for them first and then do a second read of a slightly more challenging version of the text.  With their school google accounts, all students are signed up for the resource.  Here are the materials from class today:

Tuesday: Water Cycle Quiz Preparation

This Thursday students have a quiz reviewing the water cycle.  In class today we discussed strategies for studying along with the study guide that was handed out (you can access it here: Water Cycle Quiz Study Guide.)

Here are some study tips:

  • Have a partner asks you the questions
  • Practice spelling the words (write and check, write and check)
  • Discuss the answers with a partner and then practice writing the answers
  • Practice drawing water cycle without looking at notes, then check notes.

Do all of these many times, at different times over a couple days.

Students also looked at data about where in the hydrosphere water is stored.
